Samantha Stosur, an eight-time Grand Slam winner, was elected captain of Australia’s Billie Jean King Cup squad on Thursday, following Alicia Molik. Australia’s Billie Jean King Cup captain is national superstar Sam Stosur.
Molik is moving out after bringing the team to the finals in 2019 and 2022, which was Stosur’s championship swansong.
“I’ve got years of playing experience, and one thing that I know is how the girls feel when you walk out on the court to play for Australia,” Stosur, who is now 39 years old, said.

Stosur has competed in 34 Billie Jean King Cup matches since her debut in 2003, and she holds the record for the most singles victories by an Australian player in the championship (29).
She won the US Open in 2011 and rose to world number four that year.
