Before your flight to South Florida do you need a COVID or flu test? Information for the holidays

Before your flight to South Florida do you need a COVID or flu test? Information for the holidays, Now that the holidays are here, people are beginning to travel and spend time with their families. It may entail taking a test before seeing Grandma for some people. Others might wear masks to reduce their risk of getting sick when they travel by plane or venture out into crowded areas.

After all, viruses like COVID-19, the flu, and others are spreading across the nation. Additionally, if you intend to travel internationally by plane, you should probably double-check that you comply with all entry and exit requirements. There may still be vaccination or testing requirements in some nations.

The following advice will help you prepare for the holiday rush: ARE YOU STILL REQUIRED TO BE TESTED BEFORE TRAVELING? BRING A MASK? WHERE IS VACCINE PROOF? There is no need for COVID-19 testing, masking, or vaccination documentation when entering the United States. Some international destinations still demand evidence of a negative COVID test result or documentation of a COVID vaccination.

ARE COVID TESTING CONDUCTED AT THE AIRPORTS IN MIAMI AND BROWARD?

Tests for COVID-19 are still accessible at Miami International Airport. Airport tests range in price from $79 to $179. If you’re flying into or out of MIA, you can stop by two test locations. One of the locations is in front of Door 11 on Concourse E’s lower level. The site offers antigen and rapid PCR tests and is open 24/7. Results from PCR tests can be obtained in 40 minutes, while those from antigen tests can be obtained in 15 minutes.

IN SOUTH FLORIDA, WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET A COVID TEST? WHAT ABOUT A FLU TEST, ALSO?

A COVID-19 test site near you can be found using the online locator in Miami-Dade County. Finding a test site in Miami-Dade or elsewhere in Florida can also be done using the online locator provided by Nomi Health. Some of the Nomi Health test locations in Miami-Dade County are still operational. These include Zoo Miami, the Miami Dade College North Campus, Aventura Mall, Dolphin Mall, and Tropical Park, which is open 24/7. You can get a BOGO deal at these Nomi Health locations: COVID-19, influenza A, and influenza B are tested for with a single nose swab.

Other places like CVS, Walgreens, community health centers, private health companies, and urgent care facilities typically offer low-cost or free COVID-19 tests. Flu tests are commonly available at these locations. A flu test is typically covered by insurance, but checks with your provider.

Some locations, like CVS and Walgreens, may also conduct COVID and flu tests concurrently. WHAT ABOUT COVID TESTS DONE AT HOME? ARE THEY FREE TO ACQUIRE? You can test yourself at home by swabbing yourself. Retailers like CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, and Amazon sell at-home test kits. Up to eight free at-home, COVID test kits are typically covered by insurance plans each month. There are two ways to obtain a free at-home test if you have insurance.

ARE FREE COVID-19 VACCINES OR BOOSTERS STILL AVAILABLE? HOW ABOUT THE FLU VACCINE?

The updated bivalent booster, which helps protect against the original COVID strain, the omicron variant BA.4 and BA.5 lineages, and the COVID-19 vaccine are still free — for the time being. Also accessible are flu shots. A piece of advice: Do your research before getting the flu shot. Some retail pharmacies like Publix and Winn-Dixie occasionally offer discounts, gift cards, or coupons if you receive an influenza vaccination.
